An exceptional artwork from the 1950s by a notable Scottish artist. It is signed in the top left corner and was gifted to David Wilde, a fellow artist and jazz enthusiast.
Alan Davie is celebrated for his abstract and symbolic art. He studied at Edinburgh College of Art and drew significant inspiration from American Abstract Expressionists. Davie’s artwork is known for its intensity, freedom, and the use of enigmatic symbols drawn from various cultures. His approach was greatly influenced by Zen Buddhism and his background as a jazz saxophonist.
Davie’s extensive career spanned over 70 years, with his works housed in esteemed institutions worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, and Tate Britain in London.
