An evocative mountain scene by Edward Wolfe RA, celebrated colourist of British modernism. Fluid washes of blue, green and earthy ochre convey the calm grandeur of nature—quiet yet resonant. Glazed and set in its original period frame, this work bears gentle wear along the lower moulding, a testament to its journey through time. It is unsigned, as is common with many of Wolfe’s later watercolours.
Wolfe was a celebrated figure in British modernism, exhibiting at the Royal Academy from 1951 to 1970 and elected a Royal Academician in 1972. His works are held in major institutions including the Tate, the Royal Academy, and the National Portrait Gallery.
Provenance: By descent from James (Jim) O’Connor, Wolfe’s lifelong partner and muse.
Frame: 59 x 72 cm / 23.2 x 28.3 inches
